Going to Legoland … Again.

Well tomorrow there probably won’t be many posts. Tomorrow the family and I are all going to Legoland. We only live a couple of hours away from Legoland Deutchland which is pretty nice. Our son loves going to Legoland. He’s not really big enough to ride many of the rides but he doesn’t care it is just the going to Legoland part that is fun for him.

This time will be extra special for him as we will be meeting my wife’s Sister and her family there. They have four children and these are our son’s favorite cousins. If the weather holds out things should be pretty nice, especially if most people end up going to Oktoberfest instead of Legoland. We can only hope.

Tonight as I’m getting ready to leave work I’ve got to fill up the car and buy some groceries. Just like in the states at Theme Parks food at Legoland is the most expensive thing. So we’ll be taking sandwiches with us to eat for lunch. We’ll still buy a little but we won’t depend on the food at the park.

So if I don’t post anything this weekend I’ll see you all on Monday.

Sex Toys in Sausage and The 7-Year Marriage. News from Germany.

Here are a couple of news bits from Germany today. These are both found in the “Weird News” section of Yahoo!.

Man hides sex toys in sausage

Summary:
A man who speaks broken English buys two sausages, then leaves. He returns later and asks the shop assistant to cool and wrap the sausages for his flight to Dubai the following day. The shop assistant realizing that the sausages weight was heavier than they were when purchased called the police. Upon opening the sausages two latex dildos with latex natural look were found. The spokesperson for the police said that while there is no law against this here, the customs officials in Dubai might have had something to say.

Not sure what this guy was thinking. I’ve made the trip between Germany and Dubai a couple of times myself and when ever I enter an Arabic country everything I own is passed through x-ray machines. Does this mean he would have gotten caught in Dubai? Probably not, from my experience the people running the scanners aren’t really sure what to look for. Great story though.

Bavarian Politician wants Law for 7-year marriage.

Summary:
A female Bavarian politician, known for her views being different than her party, has called for a law to have marriages expire after seven years.

Gabriele Pauli is a member of the CSU (sister party to Angela Merkle’s CDU) which is predominately Catholic (as is much of Bavaria). This party has been in charge of Bavaria ever since the end of WWII (Bavarians really don’t like change.) Recently, Pauli was in the middle of a scandal involving the recently deposed Bavarian president (and defacto leader of the CSU) , when he attempted to spy on her to find out information on her personal relationships and drinking to use against her in party politics. Obviously he screwed up. His replacement will be voted on in a couple of weeks. Pauli is not in the running.

Don’t know why it seems so much strangeness comes from Germany. It does make it interesting to live here.

There is No Sliced Bread in Germany.

Ok there is actually but the Germans don’t call bread what Americans call bread. What Americans call bread Germans call “toast” basically because it is made to be placed in the toaster. German bread, if you don’t know already, is heavy, dense, with a hard crust and is normally not sliced.

Normally if you buy bread you do so at your local bakery. Now in some bakeries they actually ask you if you want your bread sliced, but not all because most Germans prefer to slice their own bread. Why? Simply because it lasts longer. If it is all sliced up it goes stale faster than if it is left whole. Many Germans actually have their own bread slicing machine. We’ve got one and I don’t even think about it anymore. In the mornings I automatically go right to the bread slicer and make a couple of slices of bread for my breakfast in the morning.

I don’t know anywhere in the states, although I could believe there are a few places, where one can purchase a nice loaf of bread as the Germans would call bread. When you eat German bread there is a nice rough texture as well as resistance from the really hard crust. American bread [sic] is so soft and chewy that it had me missing German bread within a couple of days into our last visit.

There are a lot of things different in Germany than there are in the states. Maybe, as I think of them I’ll try to post them up here for people to read. If you really ever read this stuff that I post.
