Still Taking Nominations for Top Ten Ugliest People.

Come on people there has to be more people who you feel to be ugly. We’re looking for people who’s politics and or what they do to be so bad that they are ugly.

So far we’ve got one entry but that’s it. We can’t have a top ten list with only one name. I know that there are some of you who know the names of people in the public eye right now that really have a lot of ugliness inside so come on and post them here and add them on the list. How to Identify an American at Oktoberfest in 3 Seconds or Less.

Just look for the loud people wearing a really stupid hat. At Oktoberfest they sell these really hideous hats and I’m pretty sure only Americans buy them.

We went into town today. I really should have remembered that this is not a good idea during Oktoberfest. Kaufinger Strasse (the main shopping street in Munich) was filled to overflowing of people who apparently weren’t drinking (yet) and were actually enjoying some of the other parts of Munich. Then every once and a while you would hear a loud noise of a bunch of voices all trying to out shout the other, and sure enough they would be all wearing stupid looking hats in the shape of beer mugs or beer barrels with the blue and white check pattern of Bavaria. As they would approach I would start hearing the actual words, and sure enough … they were Americans.

The Evil is Spreading.

Apple’s crappy iPhone is spreading like the Borg and soon Germany will be assimilated. Pretty scary thought actually. T-Mobile is advertising that they are going to sell the iPhone in Germany starting November 9th. From the looks of things T-Mobile is not going to be giving much of a discount on the phone charging €399 for the 8GB version. Oh yeah and I think 399 Euros is much more than 475 Dollars … hmm let me do the calculation with the most recent dollar to euro conversion:

Current (as of the time of this posting) exchange rate is 1 Euro buys 1.4134 Dollars
so we calculate this as 399 Euros X 1.4134 and we get a wopping 564 Dollars. Wow you guys have it easy don’t you.

Now if T-Mobile is going to sell the phones locked then there might be a way to take them to court since they do not provide any assistance in the price. For example, I want a phone and a contract here in Germany, I go to my local T-Punkt (TeleKom’s service center). I choose a phone and pay a fraction of the price as long as I sign a contract to use T-Mobile for the next say two years or so. Great fine I get the phone I want cheaper because I’m actually going to pay for it over time via my contract. Because I’m in a contract with T-Mobile then they will lock my phone for at least the time of my contract. Ok no problem I’ve signed a contract with them anyway why not. Now the thing is I won’t buy a phone with a contract unless I get some discount on the phone. Why would I pay 399 Euros for a phone and then get stuck paying the fees to T-Mobile. If I’m going to buy a phone for 399 Euros I want to use what ever service there is out there.

I really wonder if this will work out for Apple or if they are going to get slammed by the German legal system. I’m hoping the Germans refuse the phone and its really legally gray contract system.

I know I’ll just stick with Nokia. No worries that they will lock up my phone with an update.

Time for iPhone Owners to take Apple to Court?

Well as of this report from the BBC, iPhone owners who have attempted to unlock their phone now have very expensive bricks. The question arises did the unlocking hack actually damage the software of the phone, or did Apple help it along? In either case people who use 3rd party software run this type of risk. The real legal question here is did Apple and AT&T conspire to force buyers to use only AT&T and is that exactly legal? I’m really thinking it is probably in the gray area of legal. I’m sure Apple says something along the lines “We can allow only AT&T provide essential service to our phone because we built it!” Well that would be like General Motors saying “We can allow only Exxon to sell fuel to our automobiles because we built them!” It’s a bunch of SHIT!

Now it doesn’t bother me any that people were:

1. Dumb for taking the chance with a really expensive piece of electronics
2. Dumb enough to buy an iPhone in the first fucking place.

I live in Germany where we don’t have iPhones. I’m sure that if Apple tries to sell the stupid thing here one of the first things that they are going to have to deal with is this “Only this carrier can provide service to our phone.” It’ll take about 48 hours for it to become an issue in European courts and Apple will probably lose.

For those of you who have just lost your iPhone to the upgrade I’ve got some advice for you. Get a different phone!

I guess these people didn’t see my own website where I DO MY OWN WEB PROGRAMMING!!!

The worst thing about it they sent the email to every single one of my email addresses that I have on the front page of my website (you’ll have to go there to understand why I’m doing such a stupid thing) so OBVIOUSLY they can see that I am a bit of a programmer myself. I admit that currently I’m using other people’s software for my website but that is only because I’m still working on mine.

Top Ten Ugliest People.

Who are the world’s top ten ugliest people? What truly defines someone as ugly. Is it mere appearance or does it actually come from inside. We’re going to find out. I’m going to ask people to nominate someone they think is the world’s ugliest person. Just send me an Email at jrsofty@hotmail.com with the subject “WARNING UGLY PERSON” and I’ll start counting things up. Then on October 31st I’ll post the names of who everyone feels are the Top Ten Ugliest People.

Why am I doing this? Because there are so many contests for good people, and helpful people, and lest we forget beautiful people. So why not something a little bit on the opposite side. So send those nominations in I’ll start a tally.

Just a quick edit, of course you need some ground rules for these nominations and here they are:

1. The person must be in the public eye. We don’t need to know what suzy so-and-so around the corner is doing unless of course she’s a big name in the public scene.
2. You must give the reasoning why they are ugly. You can’t just say this person is ugly and leave it at that. Of course there are some obvious ones out there but of course it would be nice to read your take on this. Yes some of your comments may be posted, no your names/email address/ or any identifying mark will not be posted. I’m not stupid you know.
3. Your nominations must be in before the 29th of October (gives me time to count and write the post).

I Have Better Things To Do than Freeze My Bajeebers Off!

The people of Nepal who live near the famous Mount Everest are calling people to keep their clothes on. Basically, some recent climbers have been climbing just so that they can take their clothes off at a high altitude and become word record holders of highest nudity. Personally I could think of better things to do than get naked on Mount Everest. Especially at 14 degrees Celsius, damn that’s cold. If someone would ask me to do something like this I would have to say no thanks, I’d rather stay a little lower to keep my clothes on.

My Mind is So Numb!

Ever have one of those days that just beats your mind into numbness, where no matter how hard you try you just can’t simply think an original thought? So you find yourself staring at your computer screen and searching random words on Google, or you just play the same brain numbing game over and over and over because all you can do is make repetitive motions.

That’s the kind of day I’m having right now. Everything seems to be coming apart at the seems and my mind has been working on several problems dealing with the same subject and has now collapsed into utter numbness. On top of that I’m catching a cold and feel miserable. I hate days like this.

The Transrapid is Coming … I wish I were More Excited

Pretty interesting that I found this bit of information on BBC instead of a local source since it is happening in my neck of the woods. I mean we’ve known for years that they “Wanted” to build the Transrapid between Munich and the Airport, but something usually got in the way, like money.

For those of you who do not know what the Transrapid is I’ll try to give you a brief explanation. The Transrapid is a maglev train. Meaning it travels by floating using magnetic levitation (pretty cool huh?). With speeds exceeding 500Km/H (damn that’s fast) it will make the trip between the main train station in Munich to the Airport in about 5-10 minutes rather than the 35-45 minutes with the existing train connection. So this will give a definite boost to Munich for getting people from travel point to travel point (or in September from Airport to getting drunk at the Oktoberfest in less than an hour). It will also boost Munich’s reputation since this will be the first Maglev train in Europe.

So why am I not so excited about this? Simply because it will be built close to our home (we live really close to the airport). Ok so the train isn’t like going to fly over our roof, it is actually being built along the Autobahn. However, it is also being dangerously close (or at least in my opinion) to the lakes that our little town uses for recreation and drinking water. So I’m a little concerned about having heavy construction that close to a place where I like to walk with my family on Sunday afternoons in summer, and where I take my son sledding in the winter (they’re going to be building really really close to the sledding hill). So yeah it is neat that we are getting this thing, but on the other hand I wish they would have built it along the other route away from where we live.

Comments Not Getting Posted? … Not My Fault.

Well it looks as though WordPress has some work that they need to do and quit sitting around waiting for it to fix itself. Recently I’ve noticed that I’m getting comments building up in my comment spam. This is because WordPress insists everyone use Akismet to filter out spam and won’t allow us to turn it off.

The problem is that apparently Akismet is filtering more comments than it should. Meaning it is filtering out comments that are not spam. The problem is that WordPress either cannot or will not fix this issue but what can we expect from someone who offers space on the web for free.

So if you actually want to post a comment on my blog and just can’t get through then drop me an email at jrsofty@hotmail.com subject Blog Comment, and I’ll personally put your comment on my site (unless of course it is spam), even if you don’t agree with my comments or even if you post derogatory comments about my actual person (although expect a rebuttal immediately following your comment).
